The United Way Estevan’s Telethon is into its second day, after the best Friday it ever had.

The telethon started at 8 a.m. Friday morning, and featured a wide variety of entertainment, including school students, dancers, soloists, groups and much more. The Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch is the site of the telethon, and was packed for much of the day.

The most recent total of $139,010 was posted just after 10 p.m., and was the highest total the Telethon has ever had on a Friday. The previous record of about $136,000 was set last year.

Since the final total, a number of donations came in.

Students from the Estevan Comprehensive School were responsible for the entertainment and running much of the event from midnight to 6 a.m. Saturday.

The telethon will continue until 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon. There will be entertainment throughout the day. Local folk trio Hook and Nail will be the closing act.

The goal for this year’s Telethon is $340,000. Proceeds from the telethon will go towards the United Way’s 15 member agencies and its community partners.

The pledge line is 306-340-4625. To bid on one of the 79 bid items, handcrafted by local residents, call 306-340-4629.

The Mercury will have updates on the Telethon throughout the day
