The carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility at SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Power Station captured 68,478 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) in February, according to information released by SaskPower.

The CCS facility was online 88 per cent of the month, coming offline for 84 hours to accommodate an outage at Boundary Dam Unit 3. The average for the previous 12 months was 67 per cent.

The average daily capture rate was 2,634 tonnes per day, with a peak one-day capture rate of 2,799 tonnes.

And the total volume of captured CO2 was up from the 12-month average of 52,041 tonnes. The February total was also 73 per cent of maximum capacity.

Unit 3 produced about 110 megawatts of power last month, compared to the average of 99.4 megawatts.

Since the CCS facility came online in October 2014, it has captured 3,198,172 tonnes of CO2.
