City offering a fall Operation Clean Sweep

The City of Estevan will be hosting the fall Operation Clean Sweep from Oct. 18-20. It will involve a free weekend for residents at the city’s landfill. People can bring their household waste to the landfill for free during the initiative.

The City of Estevan will be hosting the fall Operation Clean Sweep from Oct. 18-20.

It will involve a free weekend for residents at the city’s landfill. People can bring their household waste to the landfill for free during the initiative. At all other times landfill fees will apply.

Landfill hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Commercial properties are not included in the free landfill weekend, but the city encourages all commercial properties to participate in the clean sweep effort.

People must be a resident of Estevan to participate in the free landfill weekend, and proof of residency will be required, such as a driver’s licence with an Estevan address.

Items that can be dropped off for free include furniture, grass clippings, tree branches and regular household garbage including appliances, excluding all refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. Mattresses and box springs will also not be allowed for free.

Any waste from rural customers will not be accepted for free.

Hazardous materials including tires, paint, batteries, televisions, computers, printers, oil, oil jugs, oil filters, any petroleum products and railway ties are never accepted at the City of Estevan landfill.

All loads must be completely covered or secured to prevent littering while in transport to the landfill.
