The swimming pool committee applied to Tundra Energy Marketing Ltd. (TEML) for $10,000, according to John Williams, TEML vice-president of pipeline operations.

He noted: “Both the foundation and TEML are committed to helping enrich the lives of people in the communities in which our employees, customers and stakeholders reside. Every year the foundation donates $1.5 million to communities in Western Canada.

“There is a lot of competition for this funding and applicants have to pass through several layers of approval to win funding,” Williams said.

Williams said he liked the fact that this project would bring a long-term benefit to a wide range of people, but what really made it stand out were the commitment, effort and engagement of not only the swimming pool committee, but the whole community of Oxbow.

He pointed out the community has raised almost $1 million in five years. For a community of around 1,300 people, and given the current economic climate, TEML felt that was an incredible achievement and deserved our support.

The Richardson Foundation thought the same and they increased the donation to $100,000 from the $10,000 requested.

“I’ve been privileged to work in many different countries and I have to say that in my time here one thing that has really stood out is the strong community spirit in Saskatchewan and the determination to make a difference. It is second to none,” said Williams.

The presentation occurred during a ground-breaking barbecue and celebration. Construction is scheduled to begin this month.

The Richardson family owns TEML and several other companies, including Tundra Oil and Gas Limited, Pioneer and James Richardson & Sons International. The foundation is the charitable arm of Richardson family.
