Nominations are now being accepted for the Estevan Chamber of Commerce’s fourth biennial Estevan Business Excellence (EBEX) Awards, which will be handed out on Oct. 20 at the Wylie-Mitchell building.

The EBEX Awards recognize the efforts of Estevan’s private sector enterprises, which show commitment to their employees and their communities, as well as their long-term growth.

The awards are open to any business of any size within the Estevan area. All award nominations are reviewed by an independent panel of judges, comprised of representatives from MNP Chartered Accountants residing outside of the Estevan area.

Awards will be handed out in numerous categories. The Outstanding Service Award goes to a business demonstrating exceptional performance in providing quality customer service. Judging considers the relative size and particular conditions of the business, as well as the growth potential, stability, investment strategy and quality of customer service.

The Community Involvement Award goes to the business that demonstrates outstanding performance in its support of arts and culture, recreation, amateur sports, education and community and business development.

The Environmental Leader Award will be presented to a business that demonstrates excellence in the development of innovative programs, products and/or services offering improvements for innovative projects.

The Growth and Expansion Award is given to a business that has made significant changes, resulting positive trends for job creation, investment and more.

The Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award is presented to an individual between the ages of 18 and 35 who has achieved success in the start-up and operation of a new or existing business.

The New Business Venture Award goes to a business that has been operating for three years or less, and has shown positive performance in terms of current or expected profitability, job creation or entry to new markets.

The Business Leader of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious awards of the night. It will be presented to an individual who exemplifies the qualities of a business visionary. This person has shown outstanding success in business or industry, and maintains a reputation for strong business ethics. Primary emphasis will be given to outstanding leadership attributes including an ethical business practice, a record of outstanding corporate citizenship and a proven record of business accomplishments.

The Business of the Year Award will be presented to a local company. All businesses nominated for any of the awards are eligible for the top business honour.

Also, at least one inductee for the Nick and Verna Morsky Business Hall of Fame will be recognized that night. It salutes pioneer and cornerstone business leaders who have demonstrated excellence over a period of at least 15 years, and whose business has contributed to the economic well-being of Estevan and the immediate area.

Two new awards have been created this year. The first is an Outstanding Employee Award. It will go to an individual for excellence at work. The employee will exemplify the mission statement of the company, act ethically, and inspire and earn admiration among colleagues, while modelling high performance standards.

The other new award is for Marketing Excellence. It will be awarded to a company that demonstrates excellence in traditional and non-traditional areas. This company will have effective marketing campaigns and engage their audience through innovative ideas.

Nominations are available on the chamber’s website or by contacting the chamber office.
