A petition has been created on the change.org website to support carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology at SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Power Station.

The petition was started by local resident Josh LeBlanc on Friday and as of 5 p.m. Sunday, it had generated 836 signatures. The goal is to have 1,000 people sign.

The petition is addressed to Premier Scott Moe; Estevan MLA Lori Carr, who is also the Minister of Government Relations among other posts; Weyburn-Big Muddy MLA Dustin Duncan, who is the minister of Environment and minister responsible for SaskPower; SaskPower board member Rob Nicolay; SaskPower president Mike Marsh; the Government of Saskatchewan; and the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan.

“The continued expansion of CCS technology has not been announced or confirmed at Boundary Dam and Shand Power Station,” the petition states.

It calls for an immediate announcement of the expansion of CCS technology to Unit 6 at Boundary Dam and the Shand Power Station, and to have it completed and in operation prior to 2030.

“This will ensure a greener future, create job opportunities in an already struggling economy and  secure a life of economic prosperity for the citizens and families of Estevan and the surrounding area.”
