Some wet weather couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of local residents for the City of Estevan’s second annual pre-Canada Day celebrations.

A large crowd attended Celebrate the True North on Friday. Family activities in the afternoon were scheduled to happen at Centennial Park, but they had to be shifted to Affinity Place.

Families enjoyed a variety of activities, including games, bumper cars, bouncy structures, face painting, children’s entertainment courtesy of Funtazm, and tours of Estevan Police Service and Estevan Fire Rescue Service vehicles.

A flag-raising ceremony was also moved into Affinity Place.

Food trucks were forced to relocate from the Estevan Leisure Centre’s parking lot to the forecourt.

A cabaret featuring the band Men Without Shame was held at the Power Dodge Curling Centre.

New for this year was a fireworks show that started just after 10 p.m. Spectators showed their appreciation by cheering and honking horns at the end of the show.

Next week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
