Spruce Ridge School Grade 7 student Conner Piche read If Little Red Riding Hood… by Jeff Moss. Randi Milbrandt, a Grade 5 student Pleasantdale School, recited Deep in our Refrigerator by Jack Prelutsky.

And Fan Nie, a Grade 2 student from Westview School, read Dr. Stickles by Sheree Fitch.

Mayor Roy Ludwig then made presentations to each of the youths.

Estevan Comprehensive School Grade 9 student Faith Haberstock and Westview School Grade 7 student Katie Ostrander were selected to perform The Spider and the Fly by Mary Howitt in a duet, but they were unable to attend.

The Mayor’s Poetry Challenge is held each year as part of the Estevan and District Music Festival. A few outstanding performers from the poetry division of the speech arts discipline are chosen to read their poems to council.
