Members of the Estevan Police Service had a relatively quiet finish to 2020, and have had a number of calls to begin 2021.
The EPS conducted several high-visibility check stops around the city during the night on New Year’s Eve. No impaired driving related charges were laid, and a lot of designated drivers were being used. One ticket for driving while suspended was issued at the stops.
A report of three young males lighting off flares in southeast Estevan was filed. Members patrolled the area, but were unable to locate the males.
Two separate mischief files were received on Dec. 31. One was regarding damage to a vehicle, the second involved tire tracks in a person’s yard.
Police received a complaint of mischief in the alley that runs along the west and south sides of Milne Crescent on Jan. 1. Police attended and observed spray painting on the back of a shed and further down on the side of power boxes. Police gathered evidence in the areas and then located additional paint on the Estevan Exhibition grounds property. If anyone has video surveillance or any information regarding these incidents, they are asked to call the EPS or Crime Stoppers.
Members received a report of an individual uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to another individual. Officers arrested an Estevan male. He was charged and later released on conditions, and he will appear in court on March 8.
Police attended to a report of suspicious persons at a community center. Members attended and located a local family legitimately using the site. No further action was required on the matter.
Officers were called to a Pleasantdale residence to a report of an intoxicated unwanted guest. Police attended and removed the unwanted guest. The 40-year-old Estevan man was transported to his residence and turned over to family members.
Police received a report of damage to a residential garage door on Jan. 2. It appears someone drove into the garage door with their vehicle and damaged it. The matter is still under investigation.
Members received a report of uttering threats. Police investigated the complaint and determined that there was not any actual criminal threats made. The matter was resolved with mediation.
Police received a request for assistance to mediate a dispute between a teenage female and her mother. Police were able to speak to the parties involved and resolve the dispute.
