The students at the Carnduff Education Complex (CEC) are getting ready for the school’s annual graduation ceremony on June 27.

Principal Ryan Nichols said there will be 23 graduates this year, which is lower than the 30-35 they normally have, but grad will still have a lot of people working hard to make the event a success.

The graduates, escorts and parents will have a banquet at the town’s CE Building starting at 5 p.m. A short program will be part of the banquet. At about 6:30 p.m., students will make their way to the CEC gymnasium for the graduation ceremony, which starts at 7 p.m.

Students will be presented with their diplomas, and the scholarships for the year will be distributed as well. The valedictorian has yet to be announced.

“This year’s guest speaker is a graduate of ours, Jamie Powell, who is a successful business owner in our community,” said Nichols.

Powell’s business is the Zaanti Relaxation Spa.

Nichols said a lot of time goes into planning graduation. The school has a couple of parent student committees that meet at the start of the year, and then they meet a few times during the year. The main focus is making sure students have enough credits to graduate.

“There’s quite a bit of time put into it, and we look forward to the evening,” said Nichols.

The gym is open to the community for grad.

Grad is a celebration of lifelong learning, he said, and the 13 years of schooling that the students have put in to prepare themselves to be successful in post-secondary education or the workforce.

“It’s important to build good community people for our community,” said Nichols.
