There is never a dull moment at the Salvation Army, with the assortment of work to be done throughout the day, in the shop, church, and out back, with incoming donations. There was so much to be seen and done during International Take Our Kids to Work Day on Nov. 2, that Emma’lyn Olsen brought a long her friend Nicole Babuyog to help out.

The day saw parents around Estevan bringing their children to work, and keeping them busy with what they usually do in the run of a day. Emma’lyn was brought to work by her mother Ronda, who put her and Nicole to work, with herself and Erica Liman, out back in the receiving area, sorting through the many donations the organization regularly receives.

“It’s going pretty good for them,” said Ronda, taking a break from the sorting. Ronda noted that her daughter was used to a great deal of the tasks she participated in while on the job, having been a volunteer for the Salvation Army previously.

“I’m a supervisor here, so I showed them some of the office stuff, and explained to them the day-to-day stuff that goes on. They learned about customer service, and will be putting together some food hampers later,” Ronda said.

Emma’lyn and Nicole were both enthusiastic to be busy with the staff, and excited for what else awaited them in the shop and church. Emma’lyn noted she enjoys sorting as much as she does, because “it’s fun yo see what comes in.”

“I know a lot of people here, from volunteering before, so it’s good to come in and talk to people around here. I’m familiar with them, and the Salvation Army,” she said. “The church is my community, so I attend and love to volunteer. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the day here.”
