Members of the Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) chapter at the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) are doing their part to discourage impaired driving this Christmas season.

Nancy Knibbs, a teacher at ECS who is in charge of SADD, said they have partnered with the school’s social justice club and the government liquor store in Estevan to remind customers about the dangers of impaired driving.

“We will be drawing and making slogans on the side of the bags that you might receive if you buy something at the liquor board story, just to remind people to be safe this holiday and not to drink and drive,” said Knibbs.

The students started working on the slogans earlier this month, and they should be dropped off at the liquor store next week. Knibbs expects they will remain for as long as possible.

“Our club is pairing with the social justice club here at the school to make as many bags as possible,” said Knibbs.

The SADD chapter has four Grade 9 and 10 students this school year. It’s a small and eager group, Knibbs said, but due to the age of their students, they won’t be able to provide shuttle services for Christmas parties like they have in the past.

The students wanted to make sure they had some type of activity before Christmas.

They hope to have another campaign late in the winter or in the spring.
