Creighton Lodge happy warmer weather is here

Well, it’s finally here. We skipped spring this year and went directly to summer. We watched the piles of snow from the clearing of the parking lots melt, in the 20-plus C weather.

Well, it’s finally here. We skipped spring this year and went directly to summer.

We watched the piles of snow from the clearing of the parking lots melt, in the 20-plus C weather. So now there will be a flurry of yard cleaning, digging out the lawn chairs and tables, and preparing for our gardens.

April was a very busy month at Creighton Lodge. The highlight was our fundraiser gala held on April 20 at the Beefeater Plaza. Thanks to the community and businesses of Estevan and area, we had a very successful evening. We appreciate all those who purchased the $100 tickets for our dinner (provided by the Beefeater) and also those who donated to our silent auction.

Our month started with the Freebies entertaining us, followed the next week by Ed Heidinger & Ken Kurtz. Janice Hirsch, the Happy Wanderers and Bob Olson finished off our month so there was no lack of music. Thanks so much to all of you – we really enjoy it when you come.

The Hearts and Hands Quilting Retreat was held in our lounge on April 6-7. It was nice to be able to walk around and see the beautiful work they were doing.

Our churches made sure we had our regular communion and church services here so we didn’t have to go out. A big thank you to the Estevan Ministerial Association for organizing our spiritual lives.

We kept busy with our cocktail nights, with snacks provided by Sharon Dayman. What a treat. We also look forward to our movie afternoon complete with popcorn and pop. Our Bingo night is also a real highlight; thanks to Joan Wock for calling the numbers. And we had our last cardmaking session with Audrey MacMurchy and Susan Mack until the fall.

Thank you one and all for your commitment to the residents of Creighton Lodge.

Our exercises are such a necessity for all of us. We are thrilled that Monica Mackenzie, Sharon Dayman and Irene Tarnes take the time to lead us in this activity. Some of us also enjoy our melt ball sessions to help our chronic pain in our hands and arms.

We said goodbye to a few very special people as they left the lodge to live in the Estevan Regional Nursing Home or St. Joseph’s Hospital’s long-term care.  Frank DeBoth, Vi Kyle, Jean Dukart and Ruth Gibson all moved on and we were saddened by the death of Ruth shortly after her move.
We grow so fond of our residents and miss them when they leave us.

Moving in to Creighton Lodge and joining our family are June Fuhr, Lois Karst, Jean Broadhead and Theresa deBoth. We hope you all settle in well and enjoy your new home.  We’re so glad you’re here.

That’s about all the news we have this month – next month we’re looking forward to the United Way Day of Caring. Stay tuned – you’ll hear all about it.
