At least one local business targeted by Bitcoin bomb threat scam

An Estevan business was among those targeted Thursday by an email scam that has been happening throughout North America.

Members of the Estevan Police Service responded to a call during the day shift of a bomb threat made via email, asking for Bitcoin. According to the scam, if the business doesn’t pay, the bomb would be detonated.

The business, whose identity was not disclosed, was found to be safe but the EPS asks the public to call the police station if they receive similar emails or phone calls.

Also on Thursday, police responded to a complaint of a hit and run on Grundeen Crescent. The matter is still under investigation.

The EPS received a Canada Revenue Agency fraud complaint. Officers remind the public to not provide any personal or financial information over the phone or Internet to those they do not know.

Members are looking into a complaint of criminal harassment involving several youths. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received another complaint of criminal harassment involving several females over social media. The investigation is still continuing.
