EPS members apprehend a suspended driver

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) arrested a suspended driver during the Jan. 29 day shift.

The motorist, a 25-year-old Estevan man, was arrested as a result of a traffic stop around Escana Street. He was charged with driving while suspended and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for 30 days.

The man will appear in court in April to answer to the charge.

In other recent police news, members were called to a hotel during the Jan. 27 night shift for a 911 hangup call. Members were able to determine who made the call and that an emergency wasn’t occurring. The caller mistakenly dialed 911.

Officers assisted a member of the public with a stray animal. The animal was captured and transported to the Estevan Humane Society’s shelter.

Police attended to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Fifth Street during the Jan. 28 day shift. One vehicle needed to be towed due to the damage. A female driver has been charged with disobeying a red light at an intersection and will appear in court in April.

Members responded to a complaint of an open door at a residence. The residence was checked and all appeared to be normal. The house was secured by members and the homeowner was contacted.

Officers were called to a report of suspicious noises coming from a residence in a duplex during the Jan. 28 night shift. Police attended and checked the area and the residence, and were not able to find anything that was disturbed or anything that was suspicious. Members were able to gain access to the residence and this also did not turn up anything out of the ordinary. The residence was secured and no further action was required.

Police were out again to performing checks on persons with court-ordered release conditions.

Members stopped a vehicle on Fourth Street, near the Royal Heights Home Park, during the Jan. 29 day shift. Emergency Medical Services was contacted to check on the driver, who was showing signs of medical distress. No further police involvement was needed.

The EPS received a report of an attempted Publishers Clearing House fraud. Police remind the public not to provide any personal or financial information over the phone or Internet to people they do not know.

Police were asked to provide a welfare check on a person during the Jan. 29 night shift. Officers checked the residence and spoke to the person, and everything was OK. No further police assistance was required.

Members received a complaint of a hit and run collision on Nicholson Road during the Jan. 30 night shift. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers also responded to a complaint of an injured cat around Albert Street. On arriving, the owner of the animal was on the scene and transported the animal to a local veterinarian.
