EPS members arrest impaired drivers; lay charges for vehicle theft and assault with a weapon

It’s been a busy week for members of the Estevan Police Service, as they arrested multiple impaired drivers, and also laid charges for theft of a vehicle and assault with a weapon.

It’s been a busy week for members of the Estevan Police Service, as they arrested multiple impaired drivers, and also laid charges for theft of a vehicle and assault with a weapon.

As a result of a complaint and investigation of a female being hit by a vehicle in the Third Street area, a 22-year-old Estevan woman was charged May 17 with assault with weapon. The female was released for court in July with conditions.

On May 16, members charged a 32-year-old woman, originally from Estevan, and now residing in Prince Albert, with theft of an automobile, theft under $5,000, uttering a forged document, failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with a probation order. The woman was arrested with the assistance of the Prince Albert Police Service and was scheduled to appear in court May 17. The automobile was recovered by police as well.

The EPS charged a 22-year-old woman from Saskatoon for driving while suspended on May 15. The traffic stop was at 13th Avenue and Eighth Street. Her vehicle was also seized and impounded for 30 days.

The EPS charged a 48-year-old Estevan man April 14 for impaired driving and operating a vehicle over the legal limit. He was stopped in the area of Eighth Avenue and provided samples that were more than double the legal limit. He was charged and released to a sober person later on in the night.

Police were called to a disturbance at a residence in the downtown area. The matter was resolved and both parties were able to remain in the residence. No further police involvement was needed.

Members received a driving complaint from the Pleasantdale area. A car was reported to be speeding down Thorn Crescent. Police want to remind all motorists that the streets in those areas are very narrow and any excess speed is extremely dangerous.

Following a curfew check on a subject who did not present himself to members at the time, has led to further investigation with a charge pending.

Police responded to an alarm at a business located in northeast Estevan on May 13. The building was found to be insecure on arrival. It was determined that staff had missed locking up when leaving for the day.

Results of a traffic stop ended up in charges for driving while impaired by drug for a 44-year-old Estevan woman. A standard field sobriety test was conducted roadside, which led to a drug recognition evaluation. She will make her first court appearance in July.

A traffic stop in central Estevan on May 11 resulted in 20-year-old Carnduff man having his driver’s licence suspended for 72 hours and his vehicle being impounded for three days following a roadside screening test for marijuana.
