Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) apprehended a couple of impaired drivers in separate incidents on Saturday.

Members of the EPS who are part of the Combined Traffic Services of Saskatchewan performed a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle on the outskirts of the city. It resulted in the driver’s arrest and charges for impaired driving. His vehicle has been seized for 30 days and driver’s licence has been suspended. He will make a court appearance at a later date.

Officers stopped two subjects operating all-terrain vehicles in south Estevan. Both drivers had been drinking. One of them failed a roadside screening device test and is now facing charges for impaired driving. The ATV has also been seized for 30 days. A court appearance has also been set for a later date.

In other recent police news, EPS members conducted a traffic blitz Thursday, with this month’s focus on seatbelts and intersections. Members issued 14 intersection-related tickets, eight seat belt-related tickets and a number of speeding tickets.

Officers responded to a disturbance in central Estevan. A 68-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman have both been charged. The man is facing one count of assault and the woman is facing charges of assault and assault with a weapon. The investigation is ongoing. The two have been released on conditions of no contact with each other as they await their first court appearance.

Police have received a number of calls about the speed of vehicles around different parks and schools where the speed limit is 30 kilometres per hour. Also, calls have been received about back alleys and lanes where the speed limit is 20 kilometres per hour. Police have already been monitoring and enforcing these areas and will continue to do so in the coming weeks and months.

Members charged two individuals, both from Estevan, with obstruction of a peace officer and possession of methamphetamine, on Friday after a traffic stop in the Newcombe Drive area. They will appear in court in July to answer to the charges.

Members attended to a complaint of a loud party in the Willow Park Greens area. The homeowner was warned of the bylaw.

Police were called to an altercation in north Estevan on Saturday, in which a male confronted a couple in a car. Police were able to diffuse the situation and no further action was required.
