EPS members called regarding a stabbing

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) were called regarding a stabbing during the June 30 day shift. Police were advised there was an Estevan male at St. Joseph’s Hospital who had been stabbed. Police attended to investigate.

A 40-year-old Estevan woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Efforts will be made to remand her in custody until the morning of July 3 when she will appear in provincial court.

The male was released from the hospital after being treated for his injury.

  • In other recent police news, officers dealt with a minor accident that occurred at Peterson Drive and King Street during the June 25 day shift. A vehicle was rear-ended and sustained minor damage. Police are looking into the matter.
  • Officers are also looking into a report of a vehicle not stopping for a school bus that had the lights and stop arm activated. The bus driver was able to get the offending vehicle’s licence plate and reported it to police. The matter has been under investigation and charges are pending.
  • Police received a call for assistance to a downtown apartment building, to assist an ambulance with a patient. When police arrived on scene they learned there was no need for assistance, and that there had been a misunderstanding with the communications officer regarding the circumstances. No further police or ambulance attention was required.
  • Officers dealt with several reports of an intoxicated male who was trespassing in yards and unable to stand on his feet during the June 26 day shift. Police located him and he was lodged in cells until sober.
  • Police received a complaint during the June 27 day shift of a stolen vehicle that was taken the previous night. The vehicle was located abandoned a short distance outside of Estevan, and was subsequently seized for forensic assessment. The investigation is ongoing.
  • A report of harassing communications being posted online was investigated during the shift, and the matter was determined to be unfounded.
  • Police received a report of an individual appearing to be in medical distress while parked on the side of a road. Members attended and conducted a wellbeing check on the male and determined that he was in good health.
  • Several driving complaints were received during the shift. These matters remain under investigation.
  • An ongoing investigation into a fraud under $5,000, involving a vehicle and currency exchange, resulted in police locating the vehicle and identifying a suspect. The investigation is continuing in this matter.
  • Officers stopped a vehicle around Isabelle Street and Cundall Drive during the June 28 night shift. The motorist was found to be driving while suspended. An approved screening device test was conducted after officers smelled beverage alcohol, and the 63-year-old driver was issued a 72-hour suspension after providing a sample with the result of warn. His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days. He will appear in court in September to answer to the charge.
  • The EPS received a complaint of a customer parking a vehicle at a service station and walking away, after an argument with another client. Members advised the owner of possible solutions and the vehicle removed by a tow truck at the owner’s request. No further police involvement was needed.
  • Members responded to a complaint of a hit and run in the downtown area. The driver of the offending vehicle was located a short time later and accident statements were provided.
  • Officers attended to a complaint of an ex-boyfriend causing issues in the Isabelle Street area. A 28-year-old Estevan man was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells until sober.
  • Police received a report of a theft of a cellular telephone during the June 29 day shift. The telephone was taken while the victim was at a park.
  • Members received a report of an intoxicated male. Police attended and determined his condition was not from recent alcohol consumption. He was transported to the hospital to be assessed.
  • Police were called to a local parking lot, as a citizen had caught a stray dog. It was taken to the Estevan Humane Society’s animal shelter.
  • Members attended to a residence for a report of a possible break and enter in progress. Police attended and determined it wasn’t a break and enter.
  • Police received a report of a dog being left in a vehicle while the owner went into the Estevan Shoppers Mall. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
  • Officers received a call from the hospital as they had a patient leave prior to getting treated, and there were concerns about the individual’s wellbeing. Police located the individual and the matter was resolved.
  • Police had an individual attend to the front counter, demanding police attend to keep the peace at a residence. Officers were tied up on other matters. The individual left the police station and went to the residence where he was unwelcome. Police stopped him on route and warned him to not attend.
  • Members attended to a disturbance at a residence in Pleasantdale area of the city. The parties involved were spoken to and the matter was resolved.
  • Police received a report of a fraud. The matter is still under investigation.
  • A found purse was turned in by a honest citizen. The owner was contacted and picked up their belongings.
  • Another citizen turned in a set of keys to police.
  • Police received a report of two stolen dogs. The victim was boarding the dogs with an individual. The individual was refusing to return the dogs. Police remind individuals that they cannot take personal property for debts owned. The small claims system is a remedy for these situations.
  • Members responded to a complaint of a noisy party in the 1300-block of Third Street during the June 29 night shift. The owner was warned of the bylaw.
  • Police received a complaint of a male who was trying door handles on vehicles in the downtown area. He was located and spoken to.
  • Officers attended to a local business after a complaint of two males causing problems outside the store. They were spoken to and sent on their way with a sober driver.
  • Members attended to a complaint of an unwanted guest at a residence in the west end. A female was spoken to by members and left peacefully. No further police action was needed.
  • Police received a report of an attempted fraud during the June 30 day shift. The complainant received a text from an individual identifying to be with SaskPower, saying they needed to do a direct deposit into the complainant’s account. The text requested banking information. Nothing was provided or disclosed. SaskPower will not text customers in relation to refunds.
  • Officers attended to an accident at the intersection of King Street and Petterson Drive. The accident was not reportable to police. There were no injuries and both vehicles were drivable.
  • Police received a report of mischief to a vehicle in the Pleasantdale area. The matter is still under investigation.
  • Officers received a report of two males fighting in the middle of the street in the Trojan subdivision. Police attended and were unable to locate anyone fighting.
  • Police had a wallet turned in by a citizen.
  • Members responded to a 911 call of a male who was lost in the Albert Street and Alexandria Avenue area during the June 30 night shift. The male was located and arrested for public intoxication. He was lodged in cells until sober for his safety.
  • Officers received a complaint of a theft of a bicycle from the 1500-block of First Street. The matter is still under investigation.
  • The EPS responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Kensington Avenue. The vehicle was located and the driver was found to be not impaired. He was warned of his driving actions.
