EPS members issue large fine for distracted driving

A local motorist is facing a steep fine after being arrested for distracted driving Saturday.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) says one of its members issued the motorist with a $1,400 ticket for a second distracted driving offence in a 12-month span. The vehicle that was being driven was seized for seven days.

In other recent police news, officers received a report Thursday of a theft from a vehicle in central Estevan. Suspect(s) entered and rummaged through the vehicle, at which time a radar detector was stolen. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a complaint of possible gunshots in the Pleasantdale area Friday. Members attended and patrolled for an extended period of time. A number of individuals in the area were spoken to and It was determined the noise was likely fireworks.

Officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local downtown business. Upon attending and locating the vehicle, the operator was found in medical distress. Emergency Medical Services was called and attended to the subject.

Police arrested a female during a traffic stop Saturday for an outstanding warrant out of Milestone. She was also found breaching her current release conditions. She was later released on new charges and set for a court date in the fall.

Officers observed fireworks being set off in the city core. The individual responsible was warned under the bylaw that he could be charged.

Police received a report of a loud party in the Westview area. Officers attended and warned the property owner under the bylaw.

Members received a report of uttering threats. The threats were received via text and telephone messages. The matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report of an assault. The victim was intoxicated and given a ride to a friend’s place for the evening. The matter is still under investigation.

Officers received a second report of uttering threats and possible mischief to property. The matter is still under investigation.
