Estevan police called to an assault and multiple accidents

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has been busy with an assault and several accidents in recent days. Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line during the Dec. 3 day shift, for a vehicle leaving the McDonald’s drive-thru.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has been busy with an assault and several accidents in recent days. 

  • Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line during the Dec. 3 day shift, for a vehicle leaving the McDonald’s drive-thru. The vehicle description did not match the licence plate provided. Members patrolled the area but did not locate a vehicle.
  • Officers received a report of a hit and run in a local business parking lot. The matter remains under investigation.
  • Members conducted a traffic stop on a 34-year-old Estevan man who was a suspended driver. He was issued a ticket under the Traffic Safety Act and his vehicle was also impounded.
  • Police responded to an alarm call at a local business during the Dec. 3 night shift. Officers found the building secure with no foul play. No further action was required.
  • Members also performed curfew checks on individuals who are on court-ordered conditions. Nobody was found to be in violation of their conditions.

  • Police then responded to a possible break and enter to a residence in north Estevan. Members checked the area and could not find any evidence of an attempted entry or any suspects in the area. The matter is under investigation.
  • Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in central Estevan during the Dec. 5 night shift. Members were able to determine that an assault had taken place and as a result, a 20-year-old man from Saskatoon was arrested and transported to the police station and lodged in cells. He was charged for assault and will attend court in February to speak to those charges. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
  • A traffic stop was conducted and an Estevan male was charged for being a minor possessing cannabis under the Cannabis Control Act.
  • Members were dispatched to a residential area in north-central Estevan for a possible break and enter. Neighbours had heard noises in the area that were concerning and summoned the police to attend. Members patrolled the area on foot and were able to determine that there was nothing of concern.
  • The EPS received a call of suspicious footprints in a residential area in southeast Estevan. Members attended and did not locate anyone in the area.
  • Members attended to a northeast Estevan business during the Dec. 6 day shift, regarding a dispute over work done on a vehicle that wasn’t paid for. The matter was resolved without further incident.
  • A report of a scam was received regarding someone purporting to be with the STARS Air Ambulance lottery. No information or money was provided and that matter was concluded without further incident.
  • A large black dog was reported in a south Estevan neighborhood near an elementary school. The bylaw enforcement officer was dispatched, however the dog had already left the area and wasn’t located.
  • Two separate hit and run accidents were reported in central and east-central Estevan, which resulted in light damage to both vehicles. The matters remain under investigation.
  • A semi-trailer unit was involved in a collision in central Estevan when the unit attempted a right turn and struck a parked vehicle.
  • Members assisted in a landlord-tenant dispute during the Dec. 7 day shift regarding abandoned property. The matter was civil and was resolved without incident.
  • Police were called to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Fourth Street. The offending driver was charged for driving without due care and attention. There were no injuries.
  • A traffic stop was conducted in central Estevan during the Dec. 7 night shift, which resulted in a 22-year-old Estevan man receiving a 120-day driving suspension and having his vehicle impounded for seven days, following a roadside screen test for alcohol. The length of the suspension and impoundment happened because the motorist has a Novice 2 driver’s licence, and it was his second driving suspension.
  • A 26-year-old man from Griffin was transported to hospital after members were called to central Estevan location. The man, who was severely intoxicated, was transported and admitted to hospital for a period of time, pending tests, before being released to another responsible adult.
  • An impaired driver was reported in north-central Estevan, but after further investigation, the male driver was found to be sober.
  • EPS received a report of a black Ford truck with no licence plate in a west-central Estevan parking lot. The vehicle, which was stopped by police, was found to have a valid permit.
  • Police were called to a report of mischief to a building in the industrial area during the Dec. 8 day shift. A door was spray-painted. The matter remains under investigation.
  • Officers were called to a report of a missing child in the early morning hours. The child was located within 30 minutes from the time of being reported missing. The child went to a friend’s house without letting the parents know.
  • Members attended to an east-central Estevan neighborhood during the Dec. 8 night shift on the report of an intoxicated male knocking on doors. The 26-year-old Alberta man was found on the steps of a residence and was arrested for public intoxication, and transported to the police station, where he was lodged in cells until sober.
  • A possible impaired driver was reported to the police. The motorist was driving at high speeds in north-central Estevan. Members attended to the area, but the vehicle was not found.
  • Members of the EPS and the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were dispatched to a south Estevan business on the report of a structure fire. Further investigation revealed that the fire was not at the business, but in the back yard of a residence where the homeowner was burning branches. The resident was spoken to by the fire department.
