Estevan police make arrests for obstruction and damaging police property

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) have made arrests for obstruction of justice and damaging police property in recent days. Police conducted a traffic stop in east Estevan during the Dec. 27 day shift, due to a traffic-related offence.

Police conducted a traffic stop in east Estevan during the Dec. 27 day shift, due to a traffic-related offence. The driver provided a false name to the officer. He was arrested and transported to the police station, and has been charged with two Traffic Safety Act offences as well as a Criminal Code charge for obstruction of justice.

Officers were called to a disturbance in the 1400-block of Fifth Street. A male and female were spoken to and then sent on their way.

Police responded a couple of hang-up calls at a residence. The parties associated with the phone number were found to be OK. Police later responded to the residence after an argument ensued between the two parties. They were separated for the time being. No further action was required.

Members were called to the east end of Fourth Street because a dog was running at large. A German shepherd was taken to the Estevan Humane Society’s shelter.

Police received a report of a scam. Thanks to staff members at a retirement home, no money was lost. The matter remains under investigation.

Members received a call during the Dec. 27 night shift from an individual concerned for a friend’s welfare. Police attended to do a well-being check on the individual and she was fine.

Officers checked individuals currently on release conditions and house arrest. The individuals were found to be home and complying with their conditions.

Police received a report of a suspicious person wandering around the Pleasantdale area and ringing doorbells. The individual was not located.

Members dealt with a dispute that was reported by a third party during the Dec. 28 day shift. Police arrived on scene and spoke to both parties, and learned that the argument was minor in nature. Both were warned about their behaviour.

Police received several calls about animals being outside. Officers are asking pet owners to be mindful when the weather gets colder, as pets can get frostbite and hypothermia.

Members also dealt with a reported hit and run that took place sometime in late December. The matter is under investigation.

Police were called to a downtown apartment building during the Dec. 28 night shift for a report of two people yelling and arguing. The matter was resolved prior to arrival, but both were spoken to.

Officers received a call about a possible impaired driver through the Report Impaired Drivers line. Police located and spoke to the driver, who was sober. The driver was warned about his driving actions.

Police were called to the area of 12th Avenue and Fifth Street for a domestic dispute. Upon speaking to parties involved, the matter was resolved and no further action was necessary.

Officers stopped several vehicles looking for impaired drivers. Police are happy to report that no impaired drivers were located.

Police attended to a report of a possible break and enter to a residence in the city’s core area during the Dec. 29 day shift. No signs of forced entry were located but the matter is under investigation.

Officers had a citizen turn in a wallet found on the street. The owner of the wallet was located and the wallet and contents were returned. Police would like to thank the citizen for turning in the found property.

Police did several checks throughout the city during the Dec. 29 night shift for suspicious activity. Some vehicles and people were stopped and spoken to around residential and commercial areas.

Members completed foot patrols through several different bars and lounges. On one stop, a male who was wanted was located and arrested on outstanding warrants. He was released a short time later with a new court date.

Police were called to a northeast establishment for a male who left without paying. He was arrested and transported to the police station. He is facing charges of fraud and mischief for damage he caused to Estevan Police Service property. He will be taken before a justice of the peace when sober.

Officers responded to a residential alarm in east Estevan. A door was open so the residence was checked to ensure no break and enter had occurred. It was determined that there was no incident and the residence was secured by the property representative.
