Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) made arrests for impaired driving and violating release conditions on Friday night.

Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Souris Avenue North and Wellock Road. A 21-year-old woman from Stoughton is facing charges of driving while impaired and refusing to provide a sample of breath as required. She was lodged in cells until sober and released for court in January to answer to the charges.

Also on Friday, members responded to a report of a suspicious male behind a business. He was located and found to be an employee dressed for working outside in the cold weather.

Officers were called to a local lounge for a report of a man causing a disturbance. A 30-year-old man from Watrous was arrested for failing to comply with a probation order. He was lodged in cells until sober and will appear in court in January to answer to the charge.

Police conducted a traffic stop on 15th Avenue and 4th Street and arrested a 28-year-old Estevan woman on outstanding warrants from Estevan and Regina Police Service. She was lodged in cells and will be taken before a justice of the peace.

Earlier in the day, members followed school buses throughout the city at the end of the school day to monitor other vehicles’ driving actions when meeting stopped buses that have their red flashing lights and stop arm activated. One violation occurring in central Estevan remains under investigation. The public is reminded not to proceed by or pass a school bus with its red flashing lights and stop arm activated. Failure to do so will result in a fine under the Traffic Safety Act for $360.

The EPS received a report of a semi-trailer unit that was unable to climb the overpass on Highway 39 east just past the intersection of Fourth Street and Kensington Avenue. Members provided traffic control while the semi unit backed up and succeeded in his second attempt once the sanding truck passed.

An attempted fraud was report to EPS, in which an unknown caller to an Estevan resident stated that person was in trouble and that they could help. Fortunately, no information was exchanged and the matter concluded without further incident.Â
