Estevan Police Service members make drug-related arrests

Members of the Estevan Police Service have made several drug-related arrests during the past week.

Cody Whitecap-Logan, a 22-year-old man from Estevan, was arrested during the Oct. 24 night shift for allegedly breaching his release conditions and for possession of meth and heroin. He was held in custody and appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on Oct. 25.

Police issued three tickets during the Oct. 25 night shift for youth possessing cannabis. The fine for this charge is $360.

Members responded to a complaint of a male trespassing in a residence on Sereggela Place during the Oct. 27 day shift. An 18-year-old male from Macoun was located a short distance away with the help of the homeowner and arrested. On arrest, the male was found to be in the possession of a controlled substance, and has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. He was lodged in cells until sober and will be released in front of a justice of the peace on conditions on Oct. 28.

Police also arrested a couple of people on drug-related charges through a conditions check and a call for an unwanted guest. A male who was on court-ordered conditions was arrested during the Oct. 24 day shift. The male was subsequently arrested for failing to abide by those conditions and possession of a controlled substance. He was held for a court appearance.

Members were called to a residence on the city’s north end during the Oct. 25 day shift on a report of an individual who refused to leave. Police arrived and arrested a 46-year-old Estevan woman for being unlawfully in a dwelling, breaching court-ordered release conditions, and possession of a controlled substance. She was held in custody and was taken to court where she was held for a further court appearance next week.

  • In other recent police news, members received a report of damage to property during the Oct. 22 night shift. An individual accidently damaged some property but couldn’t locate the owner. It was reported to police for information purposes.
  • Officers received a driving complaint regarding pictures being placed on Snapchat. Members were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Police received a report of an assault from a north end business early during the Oct. 23 day shift. Statements were taken and police are attempting to obtain the video from the business to assist with identifying the suspect. The matter remains under investigation.
  • Officers received a call about a group of people making threats to a young man. Police are gathering statements and obtaining video and audio evidence of the offence. The matter remains under investigation.
  • Police are investigating a driving complaint that resulted in a collision at an intersection. Charges are pending for one driver as police continue to investigate. No injuries were reported.
  • Members had a report of a theft of money from a local property and are investigating.
  • Police received a call to a residence during the Oct. 23 night shift, as an unwanted individual would not leave. Police attended and the individual had left. A short time later, the female returned and police were called a second time. She left before police arrived again. Police observed her vehicle driving away a couple blocks from the address. She was stopped and warned to stay away and not contact the homeowner, or she would be criminally prosecuted.
  • Members received a report of a disagreement in the Pleasantdale area. Police attended and mediated a resolution.
  • Police were called to the skate park for a report of a fight. Police attended and two male youths were charged under the bylaw for fighting in public.
  • Members stopped a vehicle entering the city for speeding. The driver was charged for speeding and found to be a suspended driver. He was also charged for that offence. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
  • Local emergency response crews were called to a two-vehicle accident in east Estevan on Highway 39 during the Oct. 24 day shift. As a result of the investigation, the driver of a car that rear-ended a truck was charged with driving without due care and attention. The 31-year-old Frobisher man was assessed a $280 fine under the Traffic Safety Act for this offence. Nobody was injured as a result of the accident, but the car had to be towed from the scene.
  • Police are also looking into some damage that occurred at a local business.
  • Members responded to a collision on King Street during the Oct. 24 night shift. Minor injuries were reported, and Estevan Emergency Medical Services were able to examine the person on scene. One driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to yield when making a lane change.
  • Officers responded to multiple calls of a suspicious vehicle driving around their south end neighborhood. The vehicle was located by police and the driver was found to be from out of town and lost. He was given some assistance with directions and sent on his way.
  • Members were called to a northeast liquor establishment to a male who urinated on an outdoor deck. He was arrested for mischief and lodged until sober. He will be released with a warning letter for his actions and will not be welcome back on the premises.
  • Police received a report that night of mischief that occurred on Oct. 22 at an east end residence. A window was broken on a garage and some damage occurred to a vehicle.   • Officers dealt with several reports of hit and run accidents that occurred at different locations throughout the city during the Oct. 25 day shift.
  • Police responded to an alarm at a commercial property in east Estevan during the Oct. 25 night shift. The building was found to be secure with no signs of a break-in.
  • Police located a pair of hockey socks in the parking lot of the Power Dodge Ice Centre. They are a small pair so are believed to fit a smaller hockey player.
  • Members responded to a complaint of a mischief at a local school during the Oct. 26 day shift, as a beverage was dumped on a vehicle. The matter is still under investigation.
  • Officers received a complaint that day of a hit and run on Spruce Drive. The incident occurred the previous day. Matter is still being looked into.
  • The EPS were asked to assist as a male collected personal belongings from his previous residence. Members attended and kept the peace. There were no issues.
  • Police issued three tickets for drivers using, viewing or holding electronic communications devices while operating a motor vehicle. The charged individuals will appear in court at a later date.
  • Police attended to a report of a disturbance at a residence in north Estevan during the Oct. 26 night shift. Upon police arrival, there were several people on the street. A house party was taking place and the guests started getting unruly. The party was disbanded and police are looking into actions of some partygoers. The matter is still under investigation.
  • Officers responded to a complaint of a male stealing property from a yard on Sereggela Place during the Oct. 27 day shift. A 55-year-old Estevan resident was arrested at a nearby business and was released on a promise to appear for court in December.
  • The EPS received a complaint of a mischief to a vehicle in the 1600-block of First Street. The matter is still under investigation and the EPS asks the public to call the police if they notice suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
  • Police also received multiple calls about scams. Some of them were the Canada Revenue Agency scam reports and another one that was reported is through Facebook. It is a page or an ad that comes up and asks people to click on it to apply for a grant. People are asked to use caution with all of these types of scams and if they have concerns, to contact their local police agency.
