Police apprehended alleged impaired driver; arrest people for violating release conditions

Police arrested and charged a 24-year-old man from Gilbert Plains, Man., for impaired driving and driving while over .08. He was released and will appear in court in Estevan in December to answer to the charges.

His name was not immediately released.

  • In other recent police news, officers received a complaint of a 13-year-old female stealing money from a residence during the Oct. 8 day shift. As a result of the investigation, the female has been charged with theft under $5,000 and will appear in court in December to answer to the charges.
  • Members attempted to mediate the sale of a motor vehicle between two parties.
  • Officers were called to Brooks Road and Petterson Drive, where a small bag of cannabis marijuana was turned over to police by a passerby who had discovered the drug.
  • Police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the city’s north end during the Oct. 8 night shift. Police arrived on scene to find that the vehicle was gone.
  • Members received a complaint of a hit and run involving a vehicle in a business parking lot during the Oct. 9 day shift. The matter is still under investigation.
  • After a traffic stop in the King Street and Hillcrest Drive area, a 27-year-old woman from Estevan was charged with driving while suspended and she was arrested on outstanding warrants from another police agency. The vehicle she was operating was seized for 30 days, as she was an unauthorized driver.
  • Police received a driving complaint during the Oct. 10 day shift regarding a vehicle that was cut off. The complainant attended to give a statement and the matter is still under investigation.
  • Members located a 46-year-old Estevan man failing to comply with his probation order during the Oct. 10 night shift, after he was found walking near the industrial area off of Kensington Avenue. The man was lodged in cells and made his first court appearance the following morning.
  • The EPS received a complaint of an erratic driver near Walmart. The vehicle was located and the motorist was warned of their driving actions.
  • Members attended to suspicious person complaint in the Willow Park Greens area. After speaking with the complainant, a search of the area was done and no suspects or vehicles were located in the area.
  • The 911 dispatch reported a call of a female yelling at a male at 12th Avenue and Fifth Street. A male was located in the area and spoken to and sent on his way. No further action was necessary.
  • Police received two separate concerns over the driving actions of a local resident during the Oct. 12 day shift. The vehicle information was given to police and the matter remains under investigation.
  • Members received a call from a Regina parole office that a local resident, who is on parole, had a Canada-wide arrest warrant. Police attended the residence and spoke to his family. The man was not home at the moment, but family contacted him and he came to the police station on his own a few minutes later to deal with the issue. The man was remanded in custody until he can speak to his parole officer next week.
  • Police received a call during the Oct. 12 night shift about a 56-year-old Estevan man who was in a local liquor establishment and not allowed to be there. A curfew check was done on the man and it was determined he was not at home. The police attempted to stop a vehicle and the driver fled on foot. He was arrested a short distance from the vehicle for breaching his release conditions. He was lodged in cells to appear in Estevan Provincial Court Monday morning
  • Police responded to a parking complaint at the Estevan Leisure Centre during the Oct. 13 day shift. The registered owner was spoken to about the improper parking.
  • Officers responded to a concern about a dog. The matter was looked into and the dog was found to be in good health, and had plenty of food and water.
  • Police were called to assist the fire department for a call at the east end of Fourth Street. Police were called in case traffic control was needed, but were able to clear shortly after arriving.
  • Members had a key fob turned in during the Oct. 13 night shift. It was located in the backseat of a local taxi.
  • Police received a report of suspicious activity. A vehicle alarm was going off in the Westview area, and the homeowner thought someone might be attempting to steal the vehicle. Police attended and determined it was probably the weather and wind that set the alarm off.
  • Officers received a 911 hang up call from a local payphone at a liquor establishment. Police attended and the patrons were all gone for the night. It appears the call was made to 911 as a prank.
  • Police commend local residents and liquor establishments for working prevent impaired driving. Members noticed a significant number of vehicle left at bars. Police counted 35 vehicles left at one of the establishment alone.
