Police called to two assaults this weekend

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has handled two assaults in the past couple of days. Police responded to a report of a fight outside a liquor establishment during Friday’s night shift. A 30-year-old Estevan man was arrested for assault.

Police responded to a report of a fight outside a liquor establishment during Friday’s night shift. A 30-year-old Estevan man was arrested for assault. He was lodged in cells until sober and was released later in the morning with a future court date.

Officers also arrested a 25-year-old woman for assault during Saturday’s night shift. She is on probation and release conditions from previous charges. She was held in cells and police will look at remanding her until Monday for court. The victim did not sustain any major injuries.

  • In other recent police news, members received a report during Tuesday’s day shift of a male selling items from a vehicle in a local business parking lot. Police attended and did not locate the individual. The matter is still under investigation.
  • Police received a report of two youths fighting at a business parking lot. The youths have both been charged under the bylaw for fighting in public.
  • Officers received a report of mischief to a vehicle and a possible failure to report an accident. The matter is still under investigation.
  • EPS members, along with members of the Combined Traffic Service of Saskatchewan, did a joint enforcement project for a few hours during Wednesday’s day shift that resulted in several summary offence tickets being issued. Tickets for speeding, cellular phone use, seat belts and intersection violations were issued. These partnerships and projects will continue now that spring is here.
  • Police also had a couple of reports that appear to be scams. No money has been paid or transferred in either case. Both remain under investigation.
  • A driving complaint was reported to police of a motorist using their electronic device while driving. Patrols of the area were made and no vehicle matching the description was located.
  • Police attended to a disturbance at a residence in the downtown core during Wednesday’s night shift. Police mediated a resolution with the parties in the residence.
  • Members charged an Estevan male with mischief to city property for damaging property in police cells. The individual appeared in Estevan Provincial Court the following morning to answer to the charge.
  • Police provided an escort during Thursday’s day shift for the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior boys basketball team on their way out of town for the Hoopla tournament.
  • Officers received a report of a suspected scam. A cheque was sent to a local resident in the hopes that it would get deposited and money returned to them. There were several inconsistencies with the letter and cheque that came in the mail. There were multiple names throughout the letter as well as only one signature on a cheque that required two. No money was lost and the complainant wanted to report it to police in hopes it would warn others to be aware.
  • Police were called to a local business parking lot during Thursday’s night shift of a report of a fight between four males and a female. Police attended and arrested a 26-year-old Estevan man. He was lodged in cells and to be released in the morning when sober.
  • Officers received a 911 call for a medical emergency. Police attended and assisted Estevan Emergency Medical Services.
  • Police received a report of a vehicle that was blocking the street. Officers attended and spoke to the property owner about pushing the vehicle back up onto the driveway.
  • Members attended to a city core residence where there was a dispute between the two individuals. Police gave one of the individuals a ride to a friend’s home to resolve the matter.
  • Police located a water leak while doing property checks during the night shift. City staff attended to resolve the problem.
  • Members received more reports of scams during Friday’s day shift. The latest one involved NAPA auto parts. Police are continuing to remind citizens not to give out personal information over the phone or Internet.
  • Officers received a call about a theft of some personal property. Police investigated the matter and were able to resolve the situation with a few calls. All of the items were returned to the owner.
  • Police then were requested to provide some assistance for a B.C. RCMP detachment. The EPS was able to provide assistance and then relayed the results back to the originating detachment.
  • Officers received a call of a vehicle that was travelling on 13th Avenue during Friday’s night shift. An occupant was believed to be smoking marijuana. A plate was given and the matter remains under investigation.
  • A report of harassment was made to police. A suspect was quickly identified and the incident is under investigation.
  • Police received parking complaints from around the city buildings of Affinity Place and the Estevan Leisure Centre. Several vehicles were issued parking violations for parking in staff parking without a visible 2019 parking pass. As well, several parking tickets were issued for vehicles parked along the fire lane on the south side of the property. Members will continue to monitor this situation at events around facilities.
  • Members assisted a family who had sold a piece of electronic equipment that still had credit card information stored in it during Saturday’s day shift. Police were able to advise the new owner and the matter was settled without further issue.
  • Police later observed a person who entered a vehicle and was showing signs of intoxication. The vehicle was checked and the driver was tested with a roadside screening device. The instrument registered a “warning” level and the driver was suspended from driving for three days. The vehicle was also impounded.
  • Officers were called to a male who had re-entered a downtown licensed establishment during Saturday’s night shift. The matter remains under investigation, with charges pending under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act.
  • Police responded to a report of a theft of cash. The money was winnings from a VLT in a downtown establishment. Police are in the process of retrieving VLT video from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. Police are hoping that the suspect makes the right choice and turns the money in so it can be returned to the rightful person.
  • Officers were dispatched to the 600-block of Second Street to a report of an intoxicated male banging on a door. He was located a short distance away and was arrested. He was lodged in cells until sober.
