Police investigating thefts, assaults and more

Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) have been busy with calls related to thefts, assaults, mischief complaints and more. The EPS is investigating the theft of a parcel during the May 7 day shift.

  • The EPS is investigating the theft of a parcel during the May 7 day shift. It was taken from the front step of a home after it was delivered by a courier company. The incident happened in northwest Estevan. The matter remains under investigation. If anyone has information about this theft or similar incidents, please call the EPS or Crime Stoppers.
  • Officers are investigating a vehicle that was being driven erratically with a noisy exhaust. A licence plate was provided, and the police are familiar with the suspect. Officers are continuing to investigate to determine if the registered owner was the driver.
  • Police received a report of a male entering a yard in north Estevan. The police, with the assistance of a neighbor, were able to identify the suspect. The suspect was investigated for mischief, theft and trespassing. The incident was resolved through mediation.
  • Police attended to a disturbance in central Estevan during the May 7 night shift. An Estevan female was arrested for breaching her release conditions.
  • Officers were then called to a south end trailer park for a report of a loud stereo. Police attended and warned a male under the bylaw.
  • Members received a report of a male skulking around the Hillside area. Officers attended and didn’t locate the male initially. He was found at his residence.
  • Officers were called to a report of individuals loitering in vehicles at a local business parking lot. Police attended and the vehicles were gone prior to arrival.
  • Members received a report of a lost or stolen backpack. The matter is under investigation.
  • Police were called to a second report of loud music at another south end trailer park. Members attended and warned the homeowner of the bylaw.
  • Officers received a couple of driving complaints during the May 8 day shift from the construction zone in the 1400-block of Fourth Street. The vehicles in these cases disregarded barricades and signs placed by the city.
  • Members were called about a harassment complaint. A statement was taken from the man and the matter remains under investigation.
  • Police received a report of a camper parked in a driveway but overhanging a sidewalk. RVs cannot hang over the sidewalk or onto the street.
  • Members received a driving complaint during the May 8 night shift regarding a vehicle in the Trojan subdivision. The vehicle was not located but the matter is still under investigation.
  • Officers noticed the passenger door of a parked vehicle that was ajar in the Hillside subdivision. It appears it was just left open. The vehicle was secured.
  • Members are looking into a mischief that took place in the parking lot of a local business during the May 9 day shift. Police are requesting the public’s assistance, and are asking that anyone who has seen someone damaging property to call police.
  • Police arrested and charged an Estevan resident during the May 9 night shift for breaching his conditions after his electronic monitoring alarm went off. The man co-operated with police and turned himself in and he was released with a future court date a short time later.
  • Police are looking into a harassment complaint between two individuals that was filed during the May 10 day shift. Police will interview the parties involved and complete an investigation into the matter.
  • Members received a complaint of mischief to a vehicle while it was parked. Officers checked the vehicle and it appeared not to be a mischief but damage caused by other means. The matter was deemed to be non-police related and was concluded.
  • A hit and run was reported from the Estevan Comprehensive School during the April 11 day shift. The matter is still under investigation.
  • The EPS received a report of a suspicious male around Ninth Street and 14th Avenue. Members attended but were unable to locate him.
  • Police attended to a two-vehicle collision around Fourth Street and Sixth Avenue. One vehicle was towed from the scene and a female driver from Preeceville was charged with driving without due care and attention. She will appear in court in July.
  • Officers acted as an escort for a school walk in the Pleasantdale area.
  • Police dealt with a report of an accident on Sixth Street and Souris Avenue South during the May 11 night shift. One vehicle needed to be towed and the driver was also checked by EMS. The matter is under investigation.
  • Members then checked a vehicle with two male occupants. Both were checked and marijuana was located. One male was also charged with breaching court-ordered release conditions. They will appear in court in July to answer to the charges.
  • Police received a call about a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located and the driver was checked for sobriety. The driver was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The driver was charged accordingly and warned about their driving actions.
  • The EPS received a report of a motorist throwing garbage out of a vehicle’s window at the parking lot of a local restaurant during the May 12 day shift. The matter is still under investigation and charges pending.
  • Officers attended to a residence to assist a female in getting some belongings. An investigation into an assault and uttering threats was started and charges are pending against an Estevan male.
  • Members responded to a complaint of extortion over unpaid child support. The matter is still under investigation.
  • Police attended to a parking complaint in the 1200-block of Second Street. The owner of the offending vehicle was located and moved his vehicle. No further police involvement was needed.
  • Police received several noise complaints involving residences or vehicles during the May 12 night shift. Officers attended and dealt with the owners, and had them turn off the noise. Police would like to remind the public that the City of Estevan noise bylaw prohibits any loud or unreasonable noise within the City. The fine starts at $250 for a first offence.
  • Members also checked several vehicles that were parked in business parking lots and had individuals sitting in them. Several people were charged under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act for consuming alcohol in a vehicle. Fines for this offence start at $360. One person was also charged with having open alcohol in public. The fine for open alcohol starts at $250.
  • Police are continuing to receive calls about scams and the callers are still requesting personal information and money. People should not give out personal information or banking information to unknown individuals over the phone.
