Police make an arrest regarding a series of thefts

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has made an arrest stemming from thefts in south Estevan. The EPS arrested a 47-year-old Estevan man May 23 as a result of multiple files regarding the thefts, which occurred in 2018 and 2019.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has made an arrest stemming from thefts in south Estevan.

The EPS arrested a 47-year-old Estevan man May 23 as a result of multiple files regarding the thefts, which occurred in 2018 and 2019.

He was remanded into custody until May 27, when he will make his first court appearance.

In other recent police news, members attended to a collision in east Estevan, in which one person was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for minor injuries. The matter remains under investigation and charges are pending.

A scam was reported regarding false Publisher’s Clearing House prizes. Fortunately no information or money was supplied.

Another attempted scam was reported in which money was requested, but nothing was provided.

Police received a driving complaint of a truck that had been moving quickly and also was very loud. Police weren’t able to locate the vehicle until a while later. The vehicle was again observed driving faster than the posted speed limit. The driver was stopped and charged with speeding and given a warning and inspection ticket for faulty vehicle parts.

Officers were later called to an open garage door at a residence. Police checked out the area and spoke to the homeowners, and found that the door was left open accidentally and that there was nothing missing. No further action was required.

Police were called to a report of a fight at a north Estevan establishment on May 25. The fight was over on arrival. The involved parties were spoken to, warned and sent on their way.

Officers attended to a downtown establishment after receiving a report of two people refusing to leave.  Upon arrival, the two in question were outside and left without any further issue.

Members responded to a noise complaint in northeast Estevan. The tenants were spoken to and warned of the bylaw. No further action was necessary.

Police then responded to an alarm at a northeast business. An insecure door was located. The building was cleared and a key holder attended to secure the business.  At this time nothing appears to be suspicious.
