The annual pool shutdown for the RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre is now underway.

The shutdown began on Monday and is expect to continue until the morning of Sept. 23. Erin Wilson, who is the program manager for the city, said one of the biggest tasks this year will be replacing the flooring in the men’s change room. The lifeguard room will also receive a new floor.

“They will match what is currently in the family change room and the women’s (change room),” said Wilson.

The men’s change room was a needed project, and once it’s finished, it will be easier to keep clean and be more user friendly.

The other tasks are fairly routine. They’re going to focus on maintenance and the cosmetics the pool area.

There is a lot of cleaning happening now. They’re replacing tiles and painting. They’re also going through maintenance procedures with the waterslide, and making sure the pool is ready for winter programs like the Estevan Mermaids synchronized swim club and the Estevan Sharks water polo club.

The pool shutdown is needed each year so they can look at what they have, and it gives them time to evaluate what they need to spend on in the future.

“This is an annual shutdown. We know it inconveniences people, and we try to keep it minimal,” she said.
