City councilors and firefighters gathered at the Estevan City Fire Station on Monday evening for the plaque dedication.

A blackboard on the wall by the station entrance commemorates the people who participated in purchasing the new building for the Estevan Fire Rescue Service.

The big move was made about two years ago and changed a lot for the city's fire security.

“It’s a grand occasion as we unveil the plaque. We can’t thank you enough, the firemen. This is their building. Council lucked out and made the right decision, God bless them. But the firemen made it happen with the countless hours under the guidance and leadership of (Fire Chief) Dale Feser,” said Mayor Roy Ludwig at the dedication ceremony.

The new building allowed firefighters to have all their equipment in one place and it also allowed more room for training and exercises, thus improving the general level of safety in the city.

This week’s edition of Southeast Lifestyles will have more on the story.
