The South East Cornerstone Public School Division has announced that the Estevan Comprehensive School will move to Level 3 in its pandemic response plan.

Earlier in the day, the Saskatchewan Health Authority recommended that all school divisions move to Level 3 in their back to school plans for high schools with at least 600 students. ECS, a Grade 9-12 school, would be one of those schools.

ECS will move to Level 3 from Nov. 17-Dec. 18.

“Essentially a Level 3 is an alternate day attendance for students, which reduces the student body in the building to 50 per cent,” Cornerstone said in a letter to parents. “With the reduction in attendance, we can support two-metre physical distancing increasing the level of safety. With this additional layer of support, we hope to be able to continue to offer a face to face delivery during these unprecedented times.”

Instruction, support and assessment will be provided on the in-class, face to face day for students. Assigned independent work and practice will be provided and expected to be completed on non-face to face days.

“It is important to ensure that your student is engaged in and completing the work assigned for out-of-class days.”

There will not be classes Monday, November 16th, as staff will use the day for a transition day to prepare for Level 3.

School administration and/or staff will be in touch to advise of your student’s schedule.

Cornerstone announced Thursday that Weyburn Comprehensive School would be shifting to Level 3 after a positive COVID-19 test in a student at the school.
