Estevan Family Resource Centre drawing interest for Savour

The Estevan Family Resource Centre has been looking for people willing to help out with the organization of next year’s Savour the Southeast.

A meeting was held on Oct. 18 at the Days Inn to discuss the family resource centre assuming control of the event, and what will be needed for savour to happen. Brittany Zahn, the co-chair of the family centre’s board, said a few people showed up, and those people were interested in helping out.

The family resource centre discussed information from when they first attended a meeting in July about the future of Savour.

“We gave out some volunteer information forms just to get a better idea of what areas people wanted to help with, and that was pretty much it,” said Wakely.

The people who attended were there as individuals, and weren’t there with any particular organizations. Zahn said the family resource centre hasn’t gone searching for groups to help out, but she expects they will eventually to help with tasks.

The family resource centre is looking for someone to help with sponsorship, the cabaret and aspects such as social media and the website.

There is knowledge of these jobs within the family resource centre’s board, but they are looking for help.

“Deanna Brown, who is our crisis counsellor, is pretty good with the website and social media stuff, so she will probably take on as much of that as she can without affecting her job at the family centre,” said Zahn.

But there is a time commitment that is causing the family centre to look beyond its board.

The family centre’s board is supportive of the organization being involved with Savour the Southeast, but three people – Zahn, board member Amanda Spenst and director Colleen Macmillan – have taken the lead from the outset.

Zahn is confident the family resource centre is able and prepared to do as much of the organization as necessary, but it would be a bonus if they added a few more people to the committee.

The centre will continue to look for volunteers until the event happens.
