Estevan area residents will gather at the Estevan Comprehensive School’s gymnasium on Nov. 11 for the city’s Remembrance Day service.

The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. It is an opportunity for people to remember those who gave their lives serving their country as members of the Canadian Forces, and also to honour those who returned home after their service, or who continue to serve.

As people are entering the gymnasium, the multi-media presentation with photos of the veterans from Estevan will be shown.

There will be two minutes of silence early in the ceremony. Legion president Jim (Frosty) Forrest will read the Role of Honour – the list of people from Estevan who died during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War and the Afghanistan mission. A wreath will be laid at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Capt. Craig Bird, who is the commanding officer of the No. 2901 Estevan Army Cadets and a local military historian, will be the guest speaker.

A service at the cenotaph will also be held in the gymnasium. Wreaths will be placed at the cenotaph.

Lunch will be served at the legion after the service. A grand opening of the new Southeast Military Museum will be held at that time.

Other communities in the southeast region will also hold services to mark Remembrance Day.
