Members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were called to a two-vehicle collision and a cooking-related alarm call in recent days.

The collision occurred at the junction of the truck bypass and Highway 39 east of the city on Friday. There was no entrapment and injuries were unknown when the call came in.

Estevan Emergency Medical Services treated and released all of the individuals on the scene.
There was minor damage to the vehicles, and both vehicles were drivable after the accident. No fluids leaked as a result of the collision.

Estevan RCMP and Estevan Police Service members provided traffic control at the scene, which was turned over to law enforcement to continue to investigate the collision.

Firefighters were also called to a residential fire alarm in northeast Estevan on Saturday. When firefighters arrived, they found a cooking-related incident had occurred, and a little smoke was lingering in the home.

Ventilation fans were set up to eject the smoke from the home, and reduce the smell of the burned cooking.

“Once that was safely accomplished, without incident, the home was turned back over to them and we returned to the station,” said Feser.

It was the only call the fire department had on the weekend, which was a good thing because the fire department was busy hosting the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Association’s fall training school.

Wednesday’s edition of the Mercury will have more on the fire school.
