A GoFundMe fundraiser for a local resident has received excellent support.

Ali Syed COVID-19 Recovery was organized by his friends at the Boundary Dam Power Station. It received $5,150 since it started early Friday. Forty-seven donors have contributed.

The initial goal was $5,000.

Preston Benning wrote that Syed is a long-standing SaskPower employee at Boundary Dam.

He tested positive for COVID-19 in late March and his health has quickly deteriorated. He is currently on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at the Regina hospital.

Throughout the last year, Syed has been very cautious and mindful of social distancing and masking up; his wife Misbah is nine months pregnant with their third child.

After testing positive and being admitted into the hospital, Misbah has now also tested positive just weeks before her due date. She has since been admitted into the Regina hospital as well.

“This couldn’t have happened to a more generous and kind family,” the fundraising page states. “Any support is much appreciated.”

All funds raised will go directly to support the Syed family and the needs of their two young children.
