Estevan Fire Rescue Service members had a busy morning on Wednesday. At about 8:30 a.m. they were called to a gravel truck trailer rollover that occurred near Bienfait about one kilometre west of Highway 18.

The truck wasn’t blocking the traffic as it was isolated into a stockpile on the worksite off the highway.

“The crews did arrive on the scene to find that gravel truck trailer did roll over onto its side there with the driver still inside the vehicle. So crews made sure that the vehicle was stable as it was in a fairly steep inclination,” said Estevan Fire Chief Dale Feser.

Firefighters had to ensure that the vehicle was stable and there were no fluid and gasoline leaks. EMS attended the scene and treated and released the driver. No injuries were reported.

RCMP also arrived on site to investigate the causes of the accident. Once the scene was deemed safe it was turned over to the stockpile manager, so they could start removing material from the trailer itself to get the vehicle to repairs.

As the fire crews were returning back to the station, another call came in from the east-central industrial area of Estevan.

A carbon monoxide (CO) alarm went off in a commercial occupancy.

“Crews attended that scene as well on the way back in. We did make entry into the occupancy and using the gas detection device we were able to confirm that there was actually no carbon monoxide in the occupancy itself,” said Feser.

Further investigation revealed that it was a faulty detection device that set off the alarm. The manager of the company was informed that he is going to have to purchase a new CO detection device.
