Estevan’s Habitat for Humanity chapter is looking for a partner family for its next build in the city, and it held an information session Saturday afternoon for those who would like to be that partner family.

Addie Polley and Tara Goulet from Habitat for Humanity’s Regina office were in Estevan to explain the process for becoming a partner family, and to answer questions from the audience.

“We’re making sure that they know what the qualifiers are, to make sure that they’re a right fit for our program,” said Polley.

People also learned what the commitment will be once they are chosen to be a partner family.

After the presentations were finished and questions were answered, those in attendance received a preliminary application package.

“From there, they can make a decision whether or not they want to apply for a home with Habitat, and from there they can do an application and start the process at that point,” said Goulet.
Common questions that they have heard at previous meetings include the ability and willingness of potential applicants to pay, and the requirements for sweat equity.

Stephanie Bramham, whose family was the first partner for Habitat for Humanity in Estevan in 2017, reflected on how her new home has changed her life and that of her daughter Teal.

“My daughter loves being there,” said Bramham. “She loves playing with her friends outside in the summer, and one of the kids from day care lives really close.”

Bramham’s daughter loved having a birthday party  at the house, and the family was thrilled to have Christmas supper there in 2017 and 2018.

“Teal loves to have people over,” Bramham said.

A member of the prospective partner family had to be in attendance at the meeting.

Next week’s edition of the Mercury will have more on this story.
