The local Habitat for Humanity committee celebrated its first home in Estevan on Friday during a key presentation ceremony.

Doug Barnstable, who chairs the committee, presented the key to Stephanie Bramham and her daughter Teal. The Bramhams are the partner family for the build.

The local Habitat committee was formed early in 2016. The Bramhams were selected as the partner family in October of last year. Construction on the home started in the summer, and now only a couple of small tasks remain before the home is finished.

The local committee received numerous donations and grants, including support from federal, provincial and municipal governments. Fundraisers were also held for the build.

Located at 410 Sillers Street, the home is a two-bedroom raised bungalow with approximately 1,400 square feet.

Barnstable paid tribute to the Habitat committee members, the volunteers who helped out, the donors and the sponsors for the project.

Bramham said she was excited to move into her new home.

“We’re going to have our own place, and not have to worry about having so many people around,” said Bramham, who helped out with insulation, painting, drywall and fence staining.

Estevan MLA Lori Carr, city Coun. Dennis Moore and Habitat for Humanity Regina chapter CEO Kelly Holmes-Binns also spoke at the event.
