Several members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were part of an international tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Captain Lincoln Empey, along with firefighters Mike Wock, Mallory Cappelle and Jon Nixon, were involved with the 9-11 Memorial Stairclimb on Friday at Studio C Fitness in Estevan. They donned their firefighting gear and climbed the equivalent to 110 flights of stairs.

Empey organized the local effort.

Each participant in the Memorial Stairclimb pays tribute to a New York firefighter by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center in New York. The firefighters died while rescuing people from the two main towers at the World Trade Centre on 9-11.
