There were no fire bans issued for the Estevan area as of Thursday afternoon, but Fire Chief Dale Feser said that unless we receive some moisture, that will change soon.

The area has been in the extreme fire danger indexing for the last four days, and firefighters are constantly monitoring the conditions.

There is a possibility of rain in the weather forecast for the weekend. However, if that changes and Estevan doesn’t receive any moisture in the next couple of days, the fire department will have to re-evaluate the situation.

“We haven’t imposed any fire bans currently at this time, however, if we don’t receive the moisture that Environment Canada has indicated over the weekend, this is something that can be a very real possibility here come Monday,” said Feser.

“We ask people in the rural areas as well as in the cities if you are doing anything that could possibly start a fire, use extreme caution and don’t hesitate, especially if you are working in the high wind conditions and dry conditions, to call 911 right away if you think that the fire is being out of control.”
