The United Way Estevan has eclipsed its goal for its 44th annual fundraising telethon.

A $10,000 donation from former Estevan resident Jeff Sandquist just before 2:30 p.m. pushed the United Way above its goal of $320,000. As of 2:30 p.m., the total was $326,785.

The telethon will wrap up at 5 p.m.

The total was more than $117,000 at about 1:30 p.m. Then the United Way received an emotional $3,700 donation from the family and friends of president Melanie Graham – a donation organized by her daughters. SaskPower raised more than $112,000, an amount that was raised by the employees of the company and matched by the Crown corporation.

Then Westmoreland Mining LLC came in with more than $80,000. The amount was once again raised by the employees and matched by the corporation.

That donation pushed the United Way to more than $316,000. Sandquist’s donation came in moments later.

The Mercury will have more details after the telethon is finished.
