The United Way Estevan’s 43rd annual fundraising telethon is now underway.

The broadcast began at 8 a.m. on Friday morning and will continue until 5 p.m. Saturday. This year’s goal is to raise $340,000 for the United Way’s 15 member agencies and its community partners.

The entire 33-hour event will air live on Access Channel 7 and on www.unitedwayestevan.com, and will be at the Royal Canadian Legion’s Estevan branch.

Entertainment will take place throughout the event, with school children, dancers, singers, bands, instrumentalists and more slated to perform.

There will also be hand-crafted bid items made by local people available through a silent auction. The Hearts and Hands Quilting Guild has prepared a quilt for this year.

To make a pledge, call 306-340-4625. The bid item line is 306-340-4629.

The Mercury will have updates throughout the weekend.
