Remembrance Day ceremonies in Estevan wrapped up late Sunday afternoon with the Bells of Peace ceremony at the cenotaph in downtown Estevan.

About 40 people braved the frigid and windy weather conditions for the brief service. Troy LeBlanc, the past-president of the Royal Canadian Legion Estevan branch, and Capt. Craig Bird, the commanding officer of the No. 2901 Estevan Army Cadets, placed a wreath at the cenotaph.

Bird then thanked everybody for attending, and paid tribute to Canada's contribution to the First World War.

After a short break, the bells from St. Giles Anglican Church and St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church started ringing. People stood silently to listen to the bells ring, with the only noise coming from a handful of passing vehicles. The bells rang 100 times in honour of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Similar ceremonies were held across the country on Remembrance Day.
