The weight room at the City of Estevan Leisure Centre got a bit brighter and a few minor cosmetic changes made to it in the six days it was out of commission.

Some of the bigger changes will be coming as the facility looks to implement the changes that will be made in the near future. New paint, new lights and ceiling tiles were added as was a new separate air handling system.

“(Those are) some real improvements and now we’ll be able to focus on more of the equipment and continuing the upgrade on many of these items,” said Erin Wilson, program manager with the City of Estevan. “I think the cosmetic changes were just due. It was time for us to give new life into the facility, to meet the standard that we want. Even just changing the lighting made a huge impact. Small things sometimes make a big difference.”

And while it has only been open since early this week, the facility has been getting positive reviews by those who use it.
“We’ve gotten lots of feedback already in a positive way,” she said. “It was definitely time.”

Now that those changes have been made, some of the newer equipment will be in the new-look weight room in the near future.

“We really have done everything we needed to accomplish. We felt had to force that closure of that facility and now we’re going to do our best to maneuver around the individuals who are using the facility and just continue to build inside the usage, so we won’t be disruptive to anybody’s health and fitness,” said Wilson.

Some new pieces and refreshed items are going to be noticed but one of the new changes will be the card swiping system that’s been implemented already.

“We’re just working on a couple of kinks with any new product but it seems to be working well,” Wilson said. “Again, we always invite everyone to check in with our front desk staff and inform us of anything that’s going on but this way they won’t have to check in with the front desk. They’ll be able to feel a little bit more come and go.”

There isn’t a specific order to the new equipment that will be coming in, as that will be depending on the order it gets sent from their supplier.

“A lot of the new paces are based on the weight room committee and their suggestions,” Wilson said. “We really tried to listen to the voice of the users on what items they felt would best suit their individual workouts and have multifunction to them. We tried not to buy anything that was for one purpose.”
