The second annual Lampman Sled Rally poker derby proved to be a popular event with snowmobilers in the southeast region.

Participants met for registration at the Lampman branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and embarked on a day of sledding in the area. There were rest areas for food and other needs.

A tally on the number of participants wasn’t available, but Lampman Lions Club member Damon Sutherland estimates there were 70-90 people involved this year. He expects they will take a different approach next year, by tabulating the number of sleds instead of just the number of poker hands sold, so they know how many participants there were.

Snowmobilers braved a cool afternoon, but the winds didn’t pick up until later in the day.

There were some good prizes paid out, and some door prizes as well.

The Lions haven’t decided where the money raised will be directed. Sutherland pointed out they have contributed towards local beautification efforts, the Lampman Fire Department, the Lampman Swimming Pool. They also supported the construction of a miniature train structure at their park.

“It usually stays in the Lampman community. We don’t really have a set area for the money raised to go towards, but the more money we raise, the more money we can give back.”
