Wednesday was a memorable day in Oxbow, thanks to the opening of the town’s new swimming pool.

There was an unofficial ribbon cutting with lifeguards and other staff members, as well as pool committee members.

Casey and Layla Kitz had the honour of being the first people to jump into the new pool, after their parents won an auction at the town’s lobsterfest in the spring.

The community of Oxbow has been fundraising for a new pool for several years. Construction started in July 2018 and the inspections were completed on Tuesday.

Swimming was free of charge on Wednesday afternoon, courtesy of a grant from Vermillion Energy. By mid-afternoon on Wednesday, the pool was packed with swimmers.

Next week’s edition of Southeast Lifestyles will have more on this story.
