Carievale 4-H Beef Club Achievement Day results

The Carievale 4-H Beef Club held their achievement day in early June at the Gilliland farm near the village. The cattle judge was Randy James of Arcola, while Megan Turton of Carnduff judged the record books.

The Carievale 4-H Beef Club held their achievement day in early June at the Gilliland farm near the village.

The cattle judge was Randy James of Arcola, while Megan Turton of Carnduff judged the record books.

In the morning, the members participated in judging heifers and team grooming. After lunch, the show began. Mike Taylor was the show announcer, Jared Gilliland and Kati Culbertson helped in the ring and Angie Cliffe was the photographer.

In grooming, in the cloverbud division, Kade Taylor was first, Jordan Cowan was second and Vanessa Cowan was third. Marisol Gilliland was first, Mya Gilliland was second and Dane Taylor was third in junior;

As for judging, Jordan Cowan was first, Bella Buchanan was second and Ben Buchanan was third among the cloverbuds, while Lance McMillen was first, Lainee McMillen was second and Andree Cowan was third in the juniors.

In showmanship, Jordan Cowan was first, Bella Buchanan was second and Kade Taylor was third for cloverbudgs. Mya Gilliand was first, Marisol Gilliland was second and Lance McMillen was third in juniors.

As for record books, Jordan Cowan was first in the cloverbud division, followed by Vanessa Cowan and Kade Taylor in second and third, respectively. Ryan Cowan was first in the juniors, Andee Cowan was second and Lance McMillen was third.

Intermediates were involved in the show as well. Kamryn Gilliland was first and Karissa Elliott was second in each of four events.

As for cattle, Jordan Cowan won the award for the champion cloverbud, and Vanessa Cowan had the reserve champion.

Lance McMillen had the supreme female and Kamryn Gilliland had the reserve champion.

Kamryn Gilliland had the grand champion continuation heifer.

The grand champion homegrown heifer was grown by Lance McMillen, and the reserve champion was grown by Karissa Elliott. They were also the grand champion and the reserve champion for the heifers.

Kamryn Gilliland won for the grand champion steer and the top homegrown steer, and Lance McMillen was the reserve champion in both categories.

Gilliland also won the award for the grand aggregate.

Ryan Cowan won the 4-H Spirit Award, while Ben Buchanan and Daylan Elliott won the hard luck awards.

Leader awards from the 4-H provincial office were presented to Lee McMillen, Steven Cowan, Kevin Taylor, Trent Elliott, Jessica Buchanan, Mikyla Cliffe and Teresa Cowan.

Breed association gifts were presented to Andee Cowan, Bella Buchanan and Ben Buchanan from the Saskatchewan Angus Association; Jordan Cowan, Ryan Cowan and Vanessa Cowan from the Saskatchewan Hereford Association; Karissa Elliott, Daylan Elliott, Lance McMillen, Lainee McMillen, Dane Taylor and Kade Taylor from the Saskatchewan Simmental Association; and Mya Gilliland, Marisol Gilliland, Kamryn Gilliland from the Saskatchewan Charolais Association.

All members received their 4-H certificates as well as member recognition gifts.
