Communities receive gaming grants

Groups and organizations across the province are receiving approximately $2.7 million from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority’s (SLGA) charitable gaming grant program.

Groups and organizations across the province are receiving approximately $2.7 million from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority’s (SLGA) charitable gaming grant program.

More than 1,100 groups and organizations received grants from SLGA this quarter.

Numerous agencies in Estevan received support, including the Envision Counselling and Support Centre, which received $4,944.25; the Estevan Archery Club ($1,436.68), the Estevan atom AA Bruins hockey club ($41.75), the Estevan atom female hockey program ($275), the Estevan atom Tier AA Bruins ($956.28), the Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins ($625), the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins ($4,746.50), the Estevan Elks Lodge ($1,838.42), the Estevan Extreme Volleyball Club ($1,866.19), the Estevan Gymnastics Club ($4,518.14), the Estevan Humane Society ($171.75), the Estevan Lacrosse Association ($241.88), the Estevan novice and atom tier hockey teams ($358.75), the Estevan peewee female Bearcats ($241.99), the Estevan Wildlife Federation ($612.18), the Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion ($985.17), Special Olympics Saskatchewan Zone 1 ($312.50), the St. Joseph’s Health Care Auxiliary ($1,219.75) and the United Way Estevan ($1,704).

The total for Estevan is $27,096.18.

Other organizations to receive funding are:

  • The Alameda Recreational Board Inc. ($4,146.25);
  • The Alida Recreation Hall and Rink Board ( $970.42);
  • Two agencies in Arcola received $1,886.44: the Arcola Daycare Inc. ($1,210.19) and the Prairie Place Complex ($676.25);
  • Two organizations in Carievale received $1,141.80: the Carievale Hall and Theatre Bingo ($562.84) and the Carievale Recreation Board ($578.96);
  • Two organizations in Carlyle will split $6,742.10: the Carlyle Sports Arena Society Inc. ($3,737.65), and the Carlyle Moms on a Community Mission Inc. and Carlyle Minor Hockey Association ($3,004.45).
  • Four organizations in Carnduff will share of $11,514.60: the Carnduff Centennial Arena Inc. ($3,411.96), the Carnduff Curling Club ($665); the Carnduff District Lions Club ($5,671.58) and the Carnduff branch of the Royal Canadian Legion ($1,766.06).
  • The Focal Point music group in Forget ($763.75);
  • The Glen Ewen Community Rink ($1,643.70);
  • The Four Seasons Drop in Centre in Kenosee Lake ($1,725.56);
  • The Moose Mountain Elks Lodge in Kisbey ($48);
  • Two organizations in Lampman shared $876.25: the Lampman Family Centre receiving ($251.25) and the Lampman Minor Sports ($625);
  • The Village of Manor and Rural Municipality of Moose Mountain Fire Department ($1,729.23);
  • The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command District 1 in Oxbow ($760);
  • Two organizations in Redvers received support: the Redvers and District Lions Club ($4,203.83) and the Redvers & District Recreation Board ($489); and
  • The Techumseh branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Stoughton ($239.79).

Licensed bingos, raffles, break-open ticket sales, Texas hold'em poker events and Monte Carlo events are among the charitable gaming activities eligible to receive a grant.

The grant is equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from these activities, up to a maximum of $100,000 annually.  Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to calculate the grants.
