The southeast region’s public education system is in good hands, according to a verbal report submitted by Ernie Cychmistruk, a former provincial director of education.

The facilitator had met with board members during an in-camera session earlier in the day on June 19, and then issued a public statement that indicated current director of education Lynn Little is providing substantial skills and leadership within the South East Cornerstone Public School Division’s system.

Cychmistruk said the details of the appraisal will remain confidential, but within Little’s ongoing file.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the process,” said Cychmistruk. “Her plate is full and that is to be appreciated.”

The now retired director/facilitator said Little and her administrative team were in full compliance with governance principals and policies and he noted there were several policy areas that were covered in the education director’s lists of responsibilities. He added this was an important issue to take note of in the future.

“We randomly selected 34 individuals to interview with 30 of them being (Cornerstone) employees and another four external sources, including some from the ministry,” Cychmistruk said, referring to the Ministry of Education. He went on to note that a discussion was held with the board itself and results were submitted to them on June 13 with this follow-up public statement and report being released less than a week later.

The performance review report was accepted by the board through a unanimous vote with Subdivision 2 trustee Harold Laich adding that he felt it was a good move to have a former director of education facilitate the evaluation process.
