Due to hot, dry conditions and an extreme fire risk that covers most of the province, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) issued a provincial fire ban late Friday morning for Crown lands, provincial parks and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District, effective immediately.

The fire ban includes any open fires, controlled burns and fireworks. Anyone who spots a wildfire can call 1-800-667-9660, dial 9-1-1 or contact their closest SPSA Forest Protection Area office.

Many rural municipalities in Saskatchewan already have fire bans in place.

You can find the latest fire risk maps and municipal fire ban map at www.saskatchewan.ca/fire. It shows most of the southeast is in the extreme fire risk category, with the exception of parts of the RMs of Moose Mountain and Hazelwood, and most of the RM of Wawken.

Those areas not in an extreme risk are at a high risk.
