Geese pair up – spring is here

Spring made it to Estevan with a lot of sun and warmth this week. And now it’s time for many animals and birds to go into mate season.

Being quite loyal creatures, every year geese come back to their regular habitats to build their nests and raise their offspring. But sometimes spots they choose for nesting may seem quite tricky.

Thus, this goose family chose the old bridge pylons near Estevan’s water treatment plant for their summer home.  For at least last four years, the pair has been building the nest on one of the middle posts.

And as soon as the pair was spotted checking out their traditional “cabin” and walking around the bridge, it became obvious that the spring of 2019 was here.

Soon Bridgit (the name the female goose received from local habitants) will climb on her pylon and will stay there for about a month, making sure that her eggs are safe and far away from any intruders. Just as it has been happening for a few past years.
